Let's Go Shopping for a Boat Loan!

Tip! Find a good loan broker. You can ask around in various boating forums. Ask the veteran contributors. You'll know them when you see them. They have many posts and will receive a lot of compliments and praise from the other forum members.

O.k. you found the boat of your dreams and like most of us you can’t afford to pay cash for it, so now your wondering how you’re going to finance the deal right? Well fortunately you  have many alternatives. A boat loan is much like purchasing a car or even a home loan depending upon the price of your boat. Some can be quite pricey. Most people never think of refinancing their home mortgage to pay for their boat. But it does have its advantages. For one its tax deductible, you only have one payment to make most likely at a fixed rate. Of course you can also get a fixed rate boat loan.

It all depends upon your needs and available rates. If you are planning on buying a boat and keeping it for just a couple of years then maybe you’d be better off with a simple fixed rate boat loan. How much you have to put down will also be a factor.

If you take out an equity line of credit loan the loan will be based upon how much equity you have in your home. This may be the way to go if you don’t have a good credit standing. So as you see there are many ways to obtain financing. You just have to get a little creative.

The main thing is to give this area a lot of thought before you jump in and make your purchase. Decide what’s best for you based upon your needs but most of all do your homework. It may be best to find a good broker that will assess your needs and advise
you accordingly.

Of course you must ultimately make the decision yourself but it’s always a good idea to get a little professional help. Doing the right amount of research will ensure your success. It’s always best to find out as much as you can before you make that big step. The more knowledge you have the better your decisions will be. Good luck and happy sailing mates.
